If extra time and space and time in your home is what you have, we could use you as a foster home. Sometimes animals need fostering for a few days, others need more time till they find their permanent home. What fosters are able to learn about the animals while they have them helps us find their perfect match.
We could never absorb that many animals in our small local rescue without the help of foster homes available at a moments notice. Elsie the 10-year-old pit bull spent two months in an area shelter with no prospects for adoption. Our reputation for being able to place senior animals is well known so the shelter staff asked us to help. Bob Banning opened up his home and he and Elsie hung out together on his couch until she went to her permanent home a few weeks ago.

Setting up a "Pet Trust" thru a paralegal or a lawyer will assure your pet will be taken care of if anything happens to you. The document should have: A) instructions about future care and custody, B) permission for your pet to be placed with a certain person or organization, C) some financial provisions for the pet's care, D) information for remaining funds when no longer needed, E) name of a trustee to distribute the funds, and F) your veterinarian's name and address for your pet's medical records. A Pet Trust goes into effect immediately, as a Will does not get enforced until after probate,
which could be quite some time.
